Biography

Effie was born in 1895, the daughter of Peter George Byass (1844-1896) and Emma Clarke (abt.1850-1920). [1]

In 1919 in South Australia, she married Bertram Gideon Bourchier (1884-1958). [2]

BOURCHIER-BYASS.
A pretty wedding was celebrated in Christ Church at 8 a.m. on Monday morning, when Mr. Bertram G. Bourchier, fifth son of the late Mr. I. W. Bourchier, of Corindhap, Victoria, and Miss Effie May Byass, youngest daughter of the late Mr. P. G. and Mrs. E. Byass, Mount Gambier, were joined in matrimony. The officiating clergyman was the Ven. Archdeacon Samwell. The bride, who was given away by her gowned in a cream gabardine costume, with cream arophane hat to match, and carried an exquisite bouquet of white flowers, covered with net. The bridesmaid was Miss Doris Byass, sister of the bride, and she wore a bright navy crepe-de-chine and champagne hat with blue spray, and carried a posy of champagne roses, with which was mingled pink, blue, and gold tissue. Mr. J. Bourchier, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride's mother, in Sturt-street, only relatives attending. The newly married couple were the recipients of numerous wedding gifts and congratulatory telegrams. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a curb bangle, and to the bridesmaid he gave a beautiful gold brooch. The bride's gift to the bride was a handsome travelling bag. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Bourchier left for Port MacDonnell. The bride's travelling dress was an Assam coat and cream hat trimmed with vue rose.

They had 4 children between 1923 and 1927.

Bertram died in 1958.

Effie passed away in 1976, aged 80 [80y 10m 13d].

She joined Bertram in Lake Terrace Cemetery, Mount Gambier, in 1978. [4]
