Sarah was born in 1821. She was the daughter of Thomas Burls and Hester Knight. She married William J Robbins. He may have passed away in 1866. She may have been living in Ealing, London in 1861, as her son, William, is the right age, though husband is John.[1] Sarah emigrated to Nelson with her son, William, on the John Bunyan on 18 Jan 1870. [2]
She married 2nd John Haycock in 1870. [3] MARRIAGE. Haycock— Robins. — February 7, by the Rev. J. A. Taylor, John Haycock, Esq., to Mrs. Sarah Robins, both of Hope.[4]
She passed away in 1901.[5][6]
Sarah Haycock, of Hope, whose death is recorded to-day, was an old and respected settler, she having come out from England in the ship John Bunyan in 1869, since which she has resided in the Hope district. Deceased, who was a native of Essex, was the relict of the late Mr John Haycock, who came out to Nelson in the Thomas Harrison in 1842, and who predeceased his wife by nearly 30 years. Mrs Haycock, who was twice married, leaves one son, Mr Wm. Robbins, of Hope. Had she lived she would have reached her 80th birthday in September next. The funeral is arranged for tomorrow afternoon at the Richmond Cemetery.[7]
It is likely that the eldest sister of John William Treacher, Sarah Jane Burls Treacher (Treachar), was named after her as the older sister of his mother, Ann Burls.
Another possible but unlikely 1861 census in Margate yet has other children too but husband is William. Kent is near to Essex where obit says she is from.
