In 1880 Joseph Knight (15) was living with his mother, Harriet, and eight siblings in the home of his grandmother, Fillis Knight.[1]
About December 1885 in Covington County, Mississippi, he married Laura Knight (1868- ). They had eight children:
- Annie E Broomfield (b. 2 Sep 1886 - d. 7 Feb 1968);
- Azzie Broomfield (b. Jun 1887 - d. Beaumont, Jefferson County, TX);
- Hattie Broomfield (b. 2 May 1891 - d. 24 Mar 1968);
- Harriet Broomfield (b. 2 May 1891 - );
- Freddy Manson Broomfield (b. 10 Oct 1894 - d. 18 Jan 1972);
- Martha (Sophie) Broomfield (b. 8 Mar 1898 - d. 13 Mar 1981);
- Carlee Knight Broomfield (b. 1901 - d. 18 Jun 1918); and
- Booker Taliaferro Broomfield (b. 25 May 1903 - d. 28 Sep 1907).
He passed away in 1904 and is buried at the Mt. Pleasant and Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery in Soso, Mississippi.
