William Broomfield was born in Devon, England.

Early Years

William was born about 1874 and his birth was registered at the Tiverton Registration District, Devon, England, between Jan-Mar 1874.^[1] He was the son of James Broomfield and Martha (Gollop) Broomfield.^[2]

William was the eldest of five children born to James and Martha:

In the 1901 census of Stoodleigh, Devon, William was age 27, a farm bailiff, living with his widowed mother Martha (51), a farmer, and siblings Sarah (23) and Eliza (19), both dairymaids, and John (17), a carter on farm.^[5]
