Biography
Martha was born in 1848 to James Broomfield and Mary Ann Amelia Short.[1] In 1887, Martha married Frederick Walter Purches. She passed away in 1931 at the age of 85.[2][3]
Research Notes
The Tasmanian birth records [4] Show Martha's LNAB as Bloomfield. However, a closer examination of the original entry shows that the father's name has been written as Bloomfield and then corrected, (by the Registrar), to Broomfield. The entry in the next column (for the mother's name) confirms the correction. That correction has not been picked up by the transcriber.

Martha's middle name is also recorded as Janette, although she only used the shortened version of Janet throughout her life.
