Biography

James was born on the 3 October 1855 to Thomas Bridgeman and Sarah McAdam. ^[1]

James married Mary Ann Rampton on the 3 September 1878. ^[2]

Over the next twenty years, twelve children were born to James and Mary Ann.

They celebrated their eldest daughter's wedding at their home, when Annie Florence married Henry Dennis in November 1903 ^[3]

Mary Ann died in October 1907 and James was left several young children to look after. ^[4]

Nine years later, on the 29 June 1916, James married Alice, the widow of Edwin Langley, a farmer and carrier, also of Durham Road. ^[5] There were no children born to this marriage.

James and Alice were together for twenty years before he died on the 14 July 1936. ^[6]

His funeral was on the 16 July when he was buried in the Te Henui Cemetery. His grave is in the Primitive Methodist Section, Row 8 Lot 6 Plot 2. His second wife Alice is buried beside him. ^{[7] [8]}

James had signed his last will and testament on the 5 May 1934. He named his wife Alice and son William James to be executors. He left his motor car(s) and all household goods and £1,500.00.00 to Alice. The rest of his estate, which was valued at under £8,000.00.00, was to be divided equally between his living children.^[9]
