Biography

The son of Sanders Brewerand Mary Ann (Duff) Brewer, James Brewer was born in Wayne County, Tennessee{{citation around 1859, residing with his family in Civil District 11,[1] where he worked as a farm laborer, working on his father's farm.[2]

James married Mary Elizabeth Risner (1869-1943), the daughter of Enoch Jackson Risner and Sarah Delilah Owens, marrying in Wayne County, Tennessee on March 23, 1887,[3] and having three children together:

  1. Samuel Washington Brewer (1888-1948)
  2. Esther Lee (Brewer) Bishop (1894-1930)
  3. Joseph Cornelius Brewer (1896-1972)

By 1910, James was a resident, an in-patient, at the Central Hospital for the Insane in Civil District 5 of Davidson County, able enough to farm there.[4] By 1910, residing at the hospital, he was no longer able to work.[5]

James Brewer passed away at the Central Hospital for the Insane in Nashville, Tennessee[6]
