``Marriage took place with the concent in Ann's father as Ann was 16 years old.

After the wedding, they mounted their horses and left immediately - Anne riding astride, not sidesaddle . THE DEATH BY LIGHTNING NEAR MUDGEE.
THE ' Western Post' says :-
During the storm on Saturday night, 30th Jan., the house of William Rayner, who resides at Sawpit flat, near Bocoble, was struck by lightning about 9 o'clock, and Mrs. Rayner was killed on the spot, leaving seven children. Dr. Ramsay informs us :-"The lightning entered the bark roof in several places, as if it had been fired into with grape shot. The tracing of Mrs. Rayner's hair net is distinctly to be seen on the wall against which her head was leaning. In the course of the electric fluid through the house it knocked a piece out of the casing of a clock which it stopped. It then struck two knives, and making its way out, ran along a bullock bow, killing two fowls. The death of Mrs. Bayner was instantaneous, her head having been set on fire. Rayner is severely burned, the lightning striking him first on the left shoulder, crossing his back, and running along the right side. Two of the children were slightly scorched." The tip of a corkscrew hanging up on the partition was melted off.
Mr. R. Wood has furnished us with further particulars. He says "that the boots on Mrs. Rayner's feet were punctured at the bottoms as if they had been bored by a large gimlet, where the electric fluid had escaped, and the soles of one of the boots were ripped from the upper leathers. At time of the accident Bayner himself was sitting with one boot off and the other on, and there were similar holes in the latter boot where the electric fluid had escaped, Rayner had a deep burn or scar on his right foot, between the ankle and the big toe, and there is also a dreadful wound all the way down from the left shoulder to the loins, and from the left side down to the toes on the right foot, where the fluid crossed his body on its course. The wound presents one of the most fearful sights I ever witnessed; but Rayner's friends will be glad to learn that he is progressing as favourably as can be reasonably expected."
