Biography

John Samuel Brand, son of David Brand and Eliza-Kay Samuel, was born in 1877 in Kirkliston.^[1]

In 1881, his family was living on High Street in Kirkliston, and John at four was at home whiel his older siblings attended school.^[2] By 1891, the family was living in Coatbrige, on Locks Street, and John was working as a general labourer.^[3]

His father, David, died in Coatbridge in 1899,^[4] leaving Eliza a widow in her forties.

In 1901, John was not recorded in the census with is family.^[5]
