Elizabeth Bishop Bowles was born at Chandler's Gore, an unincorporated area of Oxford County, Maine, that in 1833 was incorporated into Livermore, Maine, on 12 Jul 1831, as the daughter of Luke C. Bowles and Rebecca Joor (Ellis) Bowles.[1]
Marriage
According to the 1928 history of Livermore, Maine, Elizabeth Bowles married Dexter Curtis, and they lived in Massachusetts,[2] She was not living with her parents in 1850;[3] she may be the Elizabeth Bolles, 19, born in Maine, living in the household of Charles and Caroline Alden at Dorchester, Massachusetts, in that year.[4] The 1880 Census shows W. Dexter Curtis, 46, born in Massachusetts, his wife Elizabeth, 48, born in Maine, and two daughters, 15 and 24, both born in Massachusetts, living at Boston,[5] and the age of the elder daughter supports 1855 as a reasonable estimate for the date of Dexter and Elizabeth's marriage.
