Biography
Margaret was the first born daughter of Georgina Mearns and Capt David Bowers.
On 26 October 1891, aged 23, Margaret married to Joseph James Porter at St Pail's Church, Oamaru. They had 5 children in their marriage, Joseph James, Margaret Olive, James Samuel David, George Reginald and Ivan Reginald.
Joseph James Porter died of Typhoid Fever in 1898 leaving Margaret a widow with 4 children under the age of 6. Margaret moved north to Christchurch settling in Linwood.
She remarried in 1917 to William Arthur (Archer) Edlin, a Casing Worker. William is recorded as William Archer on the NZBDM Marriage Index but as William Arthur on the NZ Electoral Roll. Archer may have been a transcription error. Margaret and William moved to Auckland and they settled on Panmure Road.
Margaret died in 1926 age 58 at the Epsom Infirmary and is buried at Hillsborough cemetery. AREA 2, BLK J, LOT NO 123.
