Alfred was born on 2 Dec 1855 in Lynden, Canada West to parents Jacob Blasdell and Mercy Buckberrough .[1][2][3][4] At the age of 19 Alfred emigrated from Ontario to Michigan[4] where he married Annie Smith on 29 Dec 1880 in Altmont, Lapeer, Michigan.[3][4][5][6]
Alfred James Blasdell was pronounced dead at 12:10 AM on 5 Oct 1941 in Flint, Michigan from a skull fracture and shock resulting from an auto-pedestrian collision. [1] No autopsy was performed. He was buried on 8 Oct 1941 in Greenwood Cemetery, Sandusky, Michigan, United States. [8]
Originally it was thought that Alfred was the son of Alexander Ritchie and Janet Graham and that he took the Blasdell surname from his stepfather Jacob Blasdell. It has since been determined that he was the son of Jacob Blasdell and Mercy Buckberrough for the following reasons:
Jannet (Graham) has been discounted as the mother of Alfred James Blasdell as Jacob was still married to Mercy Buckberrough at the time of Alfred's birth and she didn't die until 12 March 1864. There are no records stating Alexander was the father but, there are several that state Jacob and Mercy were the parents. It is inconceivable now that Jannet and Alexander were the parents. I believe that any coincidence to an Alfred Ritchie and Alfred Blasdell are just that. - Barry C Sweetman
