James, son of James Bigwood & Mary Bigwood, was baptised on 20 October 1839 in Bristol, St Nicholas, Gloucestershire, England.[1] He was educated at Cotham and St. John's college, Cambridge, receiving M.A. in 1865. He later became a partner in the business Messrs. Champion & Co., Mustard and Vinegar Manufacturers. [2]
James married Marian Webb on 18 August 1862 in Torquay, St John, Devon, England.[3]
He would first become MP for Finsbury East in 1885, [4] but would lose the seat the following year. [5] He was subsequently elected in a byelection as MP for Brentford, Middlesex in December 1886 [6] and held this seat until 1906. [7][8][9]
He was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Middlesex on 17 January 1906. [10]
He died on 6 December 1919 at The Lawn, Twickenham, Middlesex. [11][12]
