Biography

Florence was born in Peckham Surrey in November 1877 (see Research Note). She is the daughter of Pryor Bidgood and Lucy Matilda Winter Cockram (maiden name unsourced).

In 1884 at age 7, Florence is attending Gloucester Road School.

On 19 June 1909 in Lambeth London Florence age 32 and a spinster wed Arthur Read (formerly Simmonds, a widower with 1 daughter. We find no evidence that children came from the marriage. At the time of the 1939 England Register, Florence and Arthur were residing at 115 Telford Avenue in Streatham Hill London.

Florence was widowed in 1949 and she passed away in Streatham on 3 October 1957 at age 80. Her late husband's first wife Doris Tuckwell was the prime beneficiary of her estate.

Research Note

We know that Florence was born in November 1877, but there is confusion about the exact date. In sources below, a school record shows her birth date as November 23, but the 1939 England Register indicates November 21. We do not know which is correct.
