Patrick Bennett was born in 1807 in Scarriff, County Clare, Ireland, son of George Bennett (1781– ) and Elizabeth Brady (>1800–<1900).

Patrick married Ellen Minogue (born in 1816 in Ireland).

Patrick arrived in Australia on 24 October 1846 at Port Adelaide, South Australia on the ship HOOGHLY from London 3 July 1846 via Plymouth.
