Joseph Beardmore came from Australia, via the Ballarat goldfields of Victoria.
In 1861 he moved to Nelson, New Zealand in the brig “Active” and established a butchery business in Stoke, Nelson.
Was a station manager at Upcotote Downs, Awatere.
In 1867 he moved to Takaka and bought about 40 acres at the extreme head of the Takaka Valley, in the fork of the two ranges.[1] He grazed Southdown-Lincoln sheep at the property he named “Daisy Hill,” gradually expanding his holding with the help of his wife and family until he had 300 acres of freehold land.
Joseph Beardmore died in 1904.
