Biography

The daughter of William Birdnear Beard Jr and Nancy (Bradford) Beard, Ruhama Beard was born in Williamson County, Tennessee[citation needed] in 1866, residing with her family in Civil District 1.[1][2]

Ruhama married her cousin, Aaron Beard, the son of Ruhama's aunt, Jane Fitzgerald (Bradford) Beard, receiving the marriage license in Williamson County on July 11, 1889[3] with the Rites of Matrimony performed by a Minister of the Gospel on July 14, 1889.[4] Ruhama and Aaron had eight known children together:

  2. Robert Thurman Beard (1895-1962)
  3. Leslie M. Beard (1899-1899)
  4. Ida V. Beard (1901-)
  5. Lola Beard (1903-infancy)
  6. Ruth I Beard (1903-)
  7. Frederick Mayes Beard (1905-1969)
  8. Lillian Beard (1909-)

They made their home in Williamson County's Civil District 2, farming,[5] later moving to Maury County, Tennessee, residing in Civil District 1.[6]

Widowed later in 1910, after her husband's death from a gunshot wound, Ruhama moved with her children to Elizabethtown, Kentucky,[7] where she farmed on her own account, aided by her sons. By 1930, her son, Robert, had married and that year, Ruhama lived with Robert and his family in Civil District 6 of Hardin County, Kentucky, while Robert worked on the railroad.[8] In 1940, Ruhama lived in Civil District 6 with her son, Frederick, and his family.[9]

Ruhama Beard passed away in Elizabethtown, Kentucky[10] at the age of 74.[11]
