Biography

John Mason Bean is the son of John Bean and Relief (Whittier Bean). He was born into the Bean Quaker Colony that his parents established in Chesterville, Maine.

On September 21, 1835, in Orange, Ohio, John married Abigail Dolloff, the daughter of Reverend Thomas Dolloff.

John and Abigail had five children, all born in Orange, Ohio:

Nancy Jane Bean, born April 19, 1839;

Mandilla Relief Bean, born January 17, 1841;

John Lyman Bean, born March 13, 1842;

Emma A. Bean, born August 28, 1845, died in infancy;

Ella A. Bean, born October 24, 1848, married ___Baum and had a daughter;

Sadie Bean, died in 1900, unmarried

In 1854, John and Abigail moved to Cleveland and remained there the rest of their lives.
