John Warren Bean is the son of Robert Bean and Sarah Ann (Buckley) Starkey Bean of Hardy County, West Virginia.
Although much of West Virginia had Union sympathies during the Civil War, Hardy County, in the extreme southern part of the state was strongly confederate. John Warren served in the Confederate Army during the civil war.
On March 27, 1856, in Hardy County, West Virgninia, John married his third cousin Elizabeth Ann Bean, daughter of Joseph Bean and Chloe Ann (Masters) Bean and had the following children:
Elizabeth Ann died on December 13, 1878 and after her death, John married Harriet _____ and had another four children by this marriage:
John and Elizabeth are buried in the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, in the Bean Settlement, Hardy County, West Virginia.
