OBITUARY. Dick Baty Dies After Long Illness. The death of Mr. Richard Baty in the city early on Sunday last ended a long and painful illness for one who had had many years of association with this district. He was 73 years of age and was taken to the city some time ago following weeks of treatment at the Beverley hospital. Dick Baty was English born and came to Australia as a member of a large family in 1909. Ill health had made a change of climate necessary for his father who did not survive for many years after arrival. Two children of the family, went to America from England. After gaining experience in farming methods by working on district properties Dick ultimately acquired a farm at Jacobs Well, where he was to spend many years of his life. His mother lived with him for several years. She died in the 1920's. He was married to a member of a well-known district family in Miss Lucille Smith in 1926, the ceremony taking place at Beverley. The couple lived at the farm until their retirement to Beverley some years ago. There were no children of the union. Dick Baty was a quiet-living citizen with plenty of friends who appreciated his friendly nature and likeable qualities. Their sympathy goes out to his widow and other relatives including brothers Norman, Fred, Gordon, Jack and Jim and sister Mary. The funeral took place at the Anglican cemetery, Beverley, after a service at St. Marys church on Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. Philson officiated and there was a large and representative gathering present to pay their test tributes of respect.

THE LATE MRS. RUTH BATY. The late Mrs. Ruth Baty, widow of the late Mr. John Baty, was born in October, 1850, at Gateshead, England; and in later years was a great worker among the sick poor, for whom she obtained aid and relief, in the surrounding districts of Hexham, England. Mrs. Baty resided in Victoria Park, where she soon had many friends, and in 1910 accompanied her sons to the Dangin and Jacob's Well districts, where they engaged in farming. For the last 15 years of her life she lived in the Swan View-Greenmount district, where she was endeared to all as Grandma. She took an active part in the social life of the district, and was a member of the Parents, and Citizens Association, Women's Auxiliary R.S.L., and the Red Cross Society; and supported the local Church of England and Methodist Churches. Two of her sons saw active service in the last war, one of which (Lieut. A. G. Baty) gained his commission in the field with the old 28th Battalion. The other son is serving again in the present war. Her object in life was to be just and noble and good.
