Harriet, child of William Bath and Sarah Bath, was baptised on 7 April 1833 in Chew Stoke, Somerset, England.[1]
Marriage. On 31st March 1856, Harriet married 'Joshiah' Baker at St. Paul's, Bedminster, Somerset, England. Both were of full age (21 or over) and single. Their fathers were named as Samuel Baker and William Bathe. [2]
Emigration to Australia. Josiah and Harriet emigrated to Australia with their infant daughter Mary Jane, on the Mount Stewart Elphinstone in 1857.[4] By 1858, Josiah and Harriet were registering the births of children in the Colony of Victoria.
Children. Their births were registered in Seymour, Majors Line and Heathcote, Victoria. Harriet's maiden name consistently given as Bathe. It wasn't until the deaths of her adult children were registered — the first in 1894 — the family decided their mother's maiden name was Bath. [5]
Harriet Baker passed away in 1921, aged 87 years. Her death was registered East Malvern, Victoria, Australia. Though her parents were not known to the informant, her maiden name was given as Bath. [6]
