Biography

Walter was the oldest of five children of Franklin and Audree Sturchler Bartlett,^[1] born when the family lived in Kimball, South Dakota. The family later lived in Chamberlain, South Dakota.^[2]

After serving in the armed forces in the Korean War^[3], he completed a teaching degree in history at the University of South Dakota. He died in a car accident in Wall, South Dakota, the same year he completed his college studies.^[4] He is buried in Riverview Cemetery, Chamberlain.^[5]
