Biography
Only child of William Banks Sr and his first wife, Waru'skami (of the Ioway Indian Tribe). His mother died very soon after his birth. Preceded his father in death.
Joseph's Iowa name was "Kulach Boula" (man who walks in the dark and is not afraid).
Married Elizabeth Ellen Simmons in 1872. Children: Oscar, Ettie, William Joseph, Ada, Bessie.
Cause of death: crushed under a wagon
