Biography

Josie (Ballah) Swisher was a West Virginian.

Josie, daughter of Enoch W. Ballah and Hannah Malinda Prichard, was born about 1867-68 in Marion County, West Virginia.[1][2]

Residence (1870) Paw Paw, Marion, West Virginia Enoch W. (age 45, farmer of land valued at $5,400) and Hannah M. Ballah (38), and their children Ezekiel Howard (12), Mahala Ann "Mahaley" (10), Malissie J. (8), Elizabeth Helen (6), Thomas J. (4) and Matilda Josephine "Josie" Ballah (2).[1]

Her father died in 1879.[3]

Residence (1880) Paw Paw, Marion, West Virginia Hannah M. Ballah (age 48), Mahala (20), Malissa J. (18), Elisabeth H. (16), Thomas J. (15), Matilda J. (12), Mary Elizabeth "Mary B." (10) and James Fredrick Ballah (5).[2]

On 9 July 1887 in Marion County, she married John Fred Swisher.[4]

Her husband died in 1899[5] and she likely remarried.
