Biography

Alice Ball was born on 09 Mar 1874, at Hamburg, Livingston, Michigan, United States, ^[1] and died on 13 Apr 1952, at Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan, United States, at the age of 78 years and 1 month old. ^[2] She was the daughter of William Ball (abt 1830-abt 1902) and Catherine Powers (1837-1916). ^[2] William and Catherine had at least 5 children: ^[3]

Alice was married twice. Her first marriage was to Henry J Osborne (1871-abt 1937) on 14 Sep 1898 at Hamburg, Livingston, Michigan, United States. Incidentally, she appears as a "Teacher" and he as a "Sleeping car Conductor" in the marriage certificate. ^[4] Divorce records were not found; in any event, in the 1920 Census, Henry appears as "Single" in a Boarding House in Nebraska, without traces of Alice, so the marriage is assumed to have ended before 02-03 January 1920 when the Census took place. ^[5] Her second marriage was to Henry M Queal (1863-1949) who was the husband of her sister Mary Kate "Katie" Ball (1865-1937). Alice and Henry married sometime between Mary Kate's death on 28 June 1937, ^[6] and the date of the 1940 census, 06 May 1940. ^[7] The date & place have been estimated @ before 06 May 1940, in Michigan, United States. The marriage ended with his death on 08 Aug 1949. ^[8] She died 3 years later in 1952. ^[2] Children were not located for her. Alice appears by name in the following censuses:

May 1940 Alice Ball appeared in the 1940 Census on 06 May 1940 at Hamburg Township, Livingston, Michigan, United States, "Alice Queal ", 66 yrs, born in Michigan, with her husband, "Henry Queal", 77 yrs, born in Michigan. NB Henry first married Alice's sister, Mary Kate Ball. ^[7]
