Biography

James Ball was born on 25 Dec 1800 at Marlboro, Windham, Vermont, United States, ^[1] and died around 28 March 1852, at Webster, Washtenaw, Michigan, United States, at the age of 51 and 3 months. He is buried in Webster United Church of Christ Cemetery in Webster. ^[2] He was the son of James Ball (1774-abt 1863) and Mary "Polly" Scoville (abt 1773-abt 1839).

According to one source, James and Mary had at least seven children: ^[3]

All but the first child, Elizabeth, were included by the original Profile Mgr in Wikitree, however, documents for the last three have not been located, ie., they have been removed from James, Mary and their siblings' profiles.

On the other hand, birth certificates were found for another three children not mentioned above, David & Jonathan (1800- ), twins, and Virtue (1802- ). However, although they were originally linked to James Ball & Mary Scoville, their parents were James Ball & Mary Thompson (from the branch headed by David Ball of Dartmouth, Massachusetts), and as a result, they have been unlinked.

James was married twice. The first time he married Phebe Spencer (abt 1803-abt 1831). The date has been estimated @ 1828 based on the birth of their first son Asa in 1829. The marriage ended around 09 Jan 1831 with Phebe's death. ^[4] His next marriage was to Lucy Chandler (abt 1803-abt 1892), daughter of Jonathan Chandler and Lucy Wilson, on 10 June 1832 at Sempronius, Cayuga, New York, United States ^[5] The marriage ended on 28 Mar 1852, with his death. ^[2] She died 40 years later on 23 Aug 1892. ^[6]
