Publican, licensee of the Northern Hotel, Oamaru, Otago, Southland, New Zealand, originally of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.
He was the son of Samuel Baker and Elizabeth Leggatt, of Salisbury. He was born on 1 November 1821. He was baptised on 1 January 1826 at St Martin, Salisbury.[1]
On 13 July 1840 he married Matilda Jane Headland, with issue.
In 1853 with his wife and children, the family left England and went to New Zealand where they settled at Oamaru, Otago, Southland.
They arrived at the Port of Dunedin on 19 August 1853.
On 20 June 1865 he was granted a Publican's License for the Northern Hotel, Oamaru.[2]
He died on 28 April 1885 at Oamaru. He was buried in Oamaru Cemetery.
