He married Margaret Joyce Evans in May 1954 in Wandsworth, Surrey, England. They had five children all girls, the last being triplets. He died on July 21, 2016, in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England, at the age of 93.

Derek was born on 17 August 1922 in Croydon, Surrey, England. He was the son of Frederick Alexander Baines and Jeanette (Baxter) Baines.^[1]
