Birth
Irwin Abraham BAIN (later BAYNE) was born in 1931 in Hartford, Connecticut, United States. He was the son of Irish-born Nathaniel "Martin" Bain and Rosalind Reiss. His father had converted to Judaism for their marriage in 1930. Irwin's name was spelled "Erwin Abraham BAIN" on his father's 1940 United States naturalization application. Irwin was likely named in part after his paternal grandfather (his father's father): Robert Erwin Bain (1842-1922).

Early life
When he was a baby, Irwin's parents lived at 11 Charter Oak Place (1931) and then at 284 Market Street (1934) in Hartford, Connecticut. His father worked as an electrical employee and then as an assembler for the Henry and Wright Manufacturing Company.

From 1935 to at least 1942, Irwin's family lived at 38 Russell Street in Hartford, Connecticut. His sisters were born in 1936 and 1939. After spelling errors in the 1940 United States Census, or perhaps for other reasons, the spelling of the family surname changed to BAYNE for most records going forward (for Irwin, his parents and his siblings). ^[1]

Death
Irwin passed away in 1944 one week before his 13th birthday. ^{[2] [3]} He was buried in Beth El Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut. ^[4] Irwin's mother would be buried in the same cemetery following her death in 1971.
