Orlow Austin was born on September 7, 1842, in Salem, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, to Asa S. Austin and Hannah P. Hackett Austin[1][2][3][4].

On June 29, 1861, Orlow (20 - worked as a bleacher) enlisted into the Civil War[6][7].
On July 16, 1861, Orlow mustered into Company E, 13th Massachusetts Infantry[8][9][10].
On June 19, 1864, Orlow was wounded, in Petersburg, Virginia[11][12].
On August 1, 1864, Orlow was mustered out, in Boston, Essex County, Massachusetts[13][14][15].
Orlow was part of the National Encampment of the G.A.R., in the Second Division, Gilman E. Sleeper Post, 60, Salem, Commander of 31 men[16].
