In 1850, Amanda (age 7) lived on a farm in Grant, Grant County, Wisconsin, with her parents, John Augustine (age 49) and Elizabeth McFall Augustine (age 47), and her siblings: Barbara (age 22), Catherine Augustine Pothour (age 18), Emeline (age 16), Anna S. (age 14), and Abraham Daniel (age 11). Catherine's husband, Andrew Pothour (age 26) lived in the household and was also a farmer. Elizabeth, Andrew, Emeline, and Anna were born in Ohio. John, Abraham, and Amanda were born in Pennsylvania.[1]
In 1860, Amanda (age 17) lived on a farm in Harrison, Grant County, Wisconsin, with her parents, John (age 59) and Elizabeth (age 58) Augustine, and her brother, Abraham Daniel (age 21). Elizabeth had been born in Ohio and the rest of the family were born in Pennsylvania.[2]
In 1900, Amanda (age 57) lived on the north side of Platteville, Grant County, Wisconsin, with her daughter Lizzie (age 33), Lizzie's husband Sherman (age 35), and their children, Bessie (age 12) and baby Lester. Sherman had been born in New Hampshire, Bessie was born in Minnesota, and Lester was born in Wisconsin. Sherman was a day laborer. He and Lizzie owned their home.[3]
