Marguerite Geneviève Aucoin, daughter of Acadians Simon Aucoin and Geneviève Theriot , was born on July 17, 1768 in Plouër-sur-Rance, Bretagne (today Côtes-d'Armor), France, after her parents had been exiled from Acadia during the Seven Years' War. She was baptized the same day. Her baptism sponsors were Chalres Aucoin and Marie Aucoin. [2][3]
In 1785 her family chose to accept the Spanish government's offer of a new home for Acadians in Louisiana. Marguerite traveled with her parents and three sisters on the La Ville d'Arcangel, arriving on 3 December 1785 in Louisiana.[1]
She married Gregoire Alexis Aucoin on 1 February 1789 in Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. The marriage was recorded there at St. Francis Church.[4]
She died on 31 October 1846 in Plattenville, Louisiana.[11]
Research Notes
There are two Marguerite Geneviève Aucoins born one day apart and about 20 km from each other on opposite banks of La Rance river near Saint-Malo, France.
She died on August 20, 1834 and was buried the next day in Assumption Parish, LA.
