Edward Archdale was born in Ireland.

He was the son of Nicholas Archdale and Adelaide Porter. April 17, 1853 Baptism of Edward Mervyn Archdale at Trory, Co Fermanagh^[3][[1]

He was educated at the Naval School in Portsmouth and entered the Royal Navy in 1866. ^[4] In 1871 he was aboard HMS Juno in Hong Kong^[5][2].

He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1875 and retired in 1880. ^[1][6][3]^[7]

He married Alicia Fleming in 1880^[8][4]. They had six children. He had a political career lasting about 45 years.^[9][5] He was made a Privy Councillor in 1921^[10][6]

He was created a baronet in 1928 by King George V.^[11][7]

He died in 1943. ^[12][13]
