Jane was born in about 1799.
She married Francis White circa 1820.
They went on to have eight children (some of whom died young).
In 1834 Jane and her husband Francis emigrated from England to New Zealand via Sydney with at least five of their children travelling on the barque Fortune. They were to join her brother in law Reverend William White (a Wesleyan missionary) at the Mangungu Methodist mission station on Hokianga Harbour. On reaching Sydney, they then travelled to Norfolk Island on the schooner Friendship to deliver stores to the prisoners on the Island (which was at that stage a penal colony). After being shipwrecked on Norfolk Island on 17 May 1835, they finally reached New Zealand on the Surry in November 1835.
They settled at Mata in Hokianga, where Francis established a farm and timber trading enterprise; the family enjoyed a spacious, comfortable home. The family were active Wesleyans, socialising mostly with local Wesleyan missionary families.
The family later moved to Auckland where her husband was a Blacksmith.
Her husband died in 1877 at the age of 77.
Jane died in 1868 at the age of 69.
