John was born in Methley, Yorkshire, on 6 December 1806, the son of Joel and Elizabeth Andrew. His birth date was registered at Queens Head (now Queensbury) Baptist chapel "John son of Joel Andrew, blacksmith, and Elizabeth his wife of Methley".[1]
He married Susanna Rusher or Rushworth on 7 April 1828 at Bradford, Yorkshire. John Andrews, blacksmith, Susanna Rusher, spinster, he signed she marked. Witnesses were James Thompson and Jonas Tasker.[2]
In 1841 Susannah applied for Poor Relief in Thornton where they lived. John had left home, to look for work his father said, and his whereabouts were not known. Six children are listed: Mary 12, Betty 9, Jonas 6, Hannah 5, Martha 4, and William 2. The overseers were applying to remove the family to Horton, and John died there the following year.[3]
John died in 1842 and was buried at Queens Head Baptist Chapel on 3 July 1842, "John Andrews, 35 years, Horton".[4][5]
