Ann Anderson was born in December 1837 and baptised at the Watten parish kirk on 8 January 1838.[1]
In 1851 Ann was living with her aunt, Ann McAdam and her husband George Davidson, on their farm at Cogle, Watten. She is listed on the 1851 Census with a trade of "house servant". Also working on the farm were Ann's maternal cousins, Peter Gow and Euphemia Mowat.[2]
