William Anderson was born in Scotland.

Wlliam Anderson was born on 9 March 1744 in Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was the son of Daniel Anderson ^[1] and Isobel Findlay. He was the brother of Helen Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson and Agnes Anderson.

He married Isabel Fleming on 2 June 1776 in Avondale, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^[2]

Sometime after marriage, William and Isabel moved to Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland. They had seven children, all born in Loudoun:
