Biography

John Alexander was born in Watten in January 1839 and was baptised at the parish kirk on 27 February 1839.[1]

In 1841 John is recorded on the census as living in "Crumyquoy" (Cromyquoy) in the parish of Watten, Caithness, with his parents and siblings Donald and William. Also recorded on the census form as living with the family were two farm servants, Catherine Bain and Janet Manson.[2]

In 1851 John was going to school and living with his parents and siblings on the family farm in Cromiequoy.
