Unfortunately, the DAR has red-lined the service of John Alcox/Alcott. He was my soldier, Daniel Alcox/Alcott's older brother.
The DAR's reasoning is that multiple John Alcott's have been used with similar service. So more proof is needed for 'Captain'
John Alcox/Alcott as a Revolutionary War soldier.
This John Alcox was the great-grandfather of author Louisa May Alcott. (Last name spelling changed about 1800.)
I suppose that 'Alcott' sounded more upscale than Alcox (originial spelling was Alcock when the brothers George and Thomas arrived
in MA in 1630 as part of the Winthrop fleet).
