Capt. Hon. Tommy Agar-Robartes M.P. was Killed in Action during World War I.

Captain the Hon. Thomas Charles Reginald Agar-Robartes (1880-1915) was the eldest son of Thomas Charles Reginald Agar-Robartes, 6th Viscount Clifden of Gowran[1] and his wife Mary née Dickenson. He was born on the 22nd of May 1880 (a twin with his sister Julia) at 30 Upper Grosvenor Street, London, England.

He was educated between 1894 and 1899 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire,[2] England. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxfordshire, England, in 1899.

Thomas held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Cornwall, Bodmin Division between January 1906 and June 1906, unseated on a petition. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Cornwall, St. Austell Division in 1908.

Thomas travelled frequently to the United States prior to the First World War, and there are records of him entering America via New York and Florida on several occasions.

Thomas gained the rank of Captain in the Coldstream Guards. He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.

During the battle of Loos (25 Sep. 1913-13 Oct. 1915 on the Weatern front, France) he was wounded on the 28 September 1915 and on the 30th of September 1915 he was killed by a sniper after rescuing a wounded comrade under heavy fire for which he was recommended for the Victoria Cross.[3]

There are memorial stones in honour of Thomas (or Tommy) at Truro Cathedral, Cornwall[4] and at St Austell Graveyard, Cornwall.[5] Probate to his estate was granted to his younger brother Francis on 17 November 1915.[6]
