Jonathan Ackers (1899-1918) was born on the 20th Jun 1899 in Liverpool, Lancashire. He was the son of Jonathan Ackers and Margaret Scott.

He was firstly baptised on the 14th July 1899 at St Francis Xavier, Liverpool

then the following month, when the family lived on Stitt Street, Everton, was christened at St Peter, Liverpool on the 6th August 1899.

By 1901 the family had moved to Phythian Street, West Derby

His father died in 1910. The family then moved to Gregson Street, Everton but Jonathan was ill and admitted to Mill Road hospital, Everton (attached to the workhouse) for bronchitis and debility.

He was educated at St Michael RC school and St Francis Xavier RC schools and left in 1913.

During the war he served as a fireman aboard "SS Dwinsk" which was sunk following a torpedo attack by a German submarine U151 on the 18th June 1918 about 400 miles from Bermuda.
He is included in the memorial for merchant mariners in Tower Hill, London.
