Private Lee Ackerman was Wounded in Action during World War I.
Lee is the eldest son of Thomas Franklin Ackerman (1868-1930) and Bessie May Kearney (1872-?). He has 4 brothers Aldace, James, Frederick and Thomas, and and sister Eleanor the baby who was just 3 when he went off to the war.
He was born in Whitaker and raised in Homestead, Allegheny County. Pennsylvania. He was working for the Westinghouse Manufacturing Company in East Pittsburgh Wikipedia when he registered for the draft on June 5, 1917[1]. He was also single at that time.
He married Grace Leola Myford (1899 – 1961) on July 28, 1917 in Wellsburg, Brooke, West Virginia[2]. His only child Glenn Vernon Ackerman was born December 28, 1917, Grace never remarried.
Private Ackerman was wounded in action. He died in France September 29, 1918[3] He is buried in Homestead Cemetery, Homestead, Allegheny, Pennsylvania[4]
