Biography

Clara Abshagen died young.

Clara was born in 1872. She was the daughter and first child of Carl Abshagen and Mary Heuck. Her parents had both immigrated from Prussia (Germany), her father as a young man, and her mother as a child. Both immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana. Clara was probably named after her maternal aunt Charlotte who had taken her vows as Sister (later Mother) Mary Clara. And her middle name may have been Sophie named after her maternal grandmother. She passed away in 1873 at just 17 months of age. It would have surely been upsetting especially for her mother having been orphaned at a young age. Her parents would go on to have 6 more children with 4 living to adulthood. Clara was interned at Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS.
