Canada Flag
Sarah (Abriel) Smith lived in Popes Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Sarah Jane Abriel was born on May 10, 1894, in Pope's Harbour, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Thomas A. Abriel and Susan Gerrard [1].

On October 16, 1883, Sarah and Charles' daughter Sevilla (age 24) married William C. French (age 44 - worked as a broker), in Wakefield, Middlesex County, Massachusetts[2].

Sarah Jane Abriel Smith (age 80), passed away, of old age (contributed by Broncho Pneumonia), on May 22, 1904, at 3 Common Street, in Wakefield, Middlesex County, Massachusetts and was buried on May 24, 1904, in Lakeside Cemetery, in Wakefield, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; Miss Lindsay was the informant[3].

1871 and 1881 Canadian censuses states that she is 56 years old. Her death record appears to be off by almost a decade, because her eldest son, Richard Francis, was born about 1837 according to the same census records. If her birth was 1815, then her marriage would have been at 20 years and first child within a year or two after. If she was actually born in 1824, as suggested by her death record testimony, given by her daughter, then Sarah Jane would have been only 10 years old on her marriage date and 12 year old when she had her first child. That is highly unlikely considering the other evidence pointing to a birthdate around 1815.

On the same censuses, she states that she was born in Nova Scotia and that her family is of "English" origin. Her religious affiliation is Church of England.
