Notables of Portugal and Cabo Verde in the Outer Rim

I just updated the Outer Rim page, with new branches extending beyond distance 70 of QEII, and even reaching 80 and 83 for two of them.

For the first time since we monitor the Outer Rim, we have a branch with Notables, from Portugal and its former colonies.

The branch containing those profiles extend to d=80

Another branch extends in Spain up to d=83. This branch was created in 2017, but only recently connected to the Big Tree.

Should the title of this post besides Portugal also mention Cabo Verde?

Most of the profiles of the branch and 2 of the 3 notables mentioned are Cabo Verdeans.

Thanks.
Sure!

We could probably shorten the distance to the center with little research...

1. Amílcar Cabral's wife, Maria Helena de Ataíde Vilhena ancestors seams to be connected to the majorat of Casas Novas, so must be a shorter path through Portuguese aristocracy. There is a published genealogical study about them.(1)

2. A French shorter path?

François Louis Armand Fourcheut de Montrond .b1844/1/8 in Grenoble(2) was a french aristocrat that established himsel in Fogo, Cabo Verde. He had 30 children from 7 mothers.

Fourcheut de Montrond could rather easily be connected to other French aristos families, we can deal with that with the French team.

If you can track his descendancy at Cabo Verde and connect him there ...

I have created a profile for Armand Fourcheut de Montrond and will work on his family in France, to connect him to the aristo cluster. Could take a while, I have several connection paths, but not yet maybe the shortest ones. But we'll get there at some point.

I'll let you deal with the Cabo Verde descendancy, which you will certainly be able to connect to the Portugal / Cabo Verde cluster.

Connected Armand to the cluster, through Maria, daughter of Clementina (two or three profiles need a better source).

Connection on the French side is work in progress. When it's done, Armand will be 6 degrees from his 2nd cousin once removed, Henri Bonnet des Paillerets, himself currently d=16 from QEII. Armand will be at d=22.

I don't see the profiles of those Maria and Clementina? And as I write, Armand's profile does not seem to be connected, Something weird happened yesterday night. Armand's daughter Jesuina appeared to be connected for a while, but now it is not. Did you delete a link?

Ha, I understand, looking at https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Montrond-2

You first added Jesuina as child of Jesuíno Barbosa Vicente, then later on you changed her father to Armand  ...

Corrected the mistake, some of the profiles need better sources, I will try to add Armand children and their mothers.

I am following Barros Brito's site: https://www.barrosbrito.com/18607.html
OK, seen that. The connexion with his aristo cousins is done, should be on the Connection Finder by tomorrow, and all the Portugal cluster pulled inwards from the Outer Rim.

Still work along the line to add spouses, comforting sources etc.
I am 20+ closer now.

Ernest Montrond (Montrond-1) (1911-1934) is maybe a grandson of Armand.

The 1920 census(1) states that Ernest father. Anton Montrond, was born in Portugal, and Anton's father was born in France and his mother in Portugal.

Can you help to figure this out?

I am a longtime wikitree connector and so always on the  lookout for possible links. The current population of Cape Verde is under 600,000, so small in comparison to many other countries, and many of the inhabitants will be distantly related. Here are some possibilities to look at further.

- Aristides Maria Pereira (1923-2011) first President of Cabo Verde after 1975 independence. (connected)
- José Maria Pereira Neves, b: 28 Mar 1960; Prime Minister from 2001-2016 & current president of Cabo Verde. A family chart for his mother is found at ...
https://www.barrosbrito.com/8041.html
where some relatives have non-english notes which I can't read. (unconnected)
Michael Silva (1971-1998) is another Cabo Verde family that I have worked on. His twin sisters have starred on reality tv shows in the spinoffs from 90 Day Fiancé - Wikipedia. (unconnected)
by N Gauthier G2G6 Pilot (298k points)

I forgot to mention that Silva's first cousin is married to former basketball player,  Ray Allen. (unconnected)

The actress Anika Noni Rose (Rose-5176) seams to have Cabo Verdean ancestors from her father side.

Another notable person born with the Pereira surname is Joe (Pereira) Perry - WikiTree Profile ... a musician with the band Aerosmith. His profile is connected, but doesn't show any ancestors - father is supposed to be from Madeira, Portugal per Joe Perry: Aerosmith lead guitarist speaks of his Portuguese heritage – Exclusive (portuguese-american-journal.com)

At the end of the above article it says that singer Katy (Hudson) Perry - WikiTree Profile descends from a Pereira - her mother's line originated in Portugal and Katy is connected.

Pereira is, if I am not mistaken, a very very common name in Portugal.
There are a lot of Pereira Family members in the Azores / Açores Islands which are North of Cabo Verde.

I know a person who's step great grandfather was a Pereira from the Azores who immigrated to Oregon, USA around 1900.

WikiTree contributors, "Joseph Antone Pereira (1880-1945)," WikiTree: The Free Family Tree, (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pereira-1743 : accessed 11 May 2024).

I connected up the actress you mentioned ... Anika Noni Rose-5176 which will show tomorrow morning - Monday

I think the Cabo Verde connection is through her father. Did you find any American records that mention Portugal or Cabo Verde/Cape Verde?

Thanks

No I connected her  through the  American maternal line. Ruby Blanton had a brother on wikitree, so I just had to create the parents to link them.

Anika appears on lists of Cabo Verde people like Top 10 Most Famous Cape Verdean Actors ... but she was born in CT. Her father is a lawyer and a Jr. with a most common name ... which is the same as her grandfather, the Sr.

We are not supposed to mention living names with no wikitree profiles, so I will refer you to this article where you can find the info ... Anika

The linked article concludes on : "Anika’s parents enjoy their life away from the public eye." So I would say : let it be that way, don't force profiles creation for living people who don't want to be public.
After doing some sourcing about this, it appears that ROSE is not Anika's LAST NAME AT BIRTH as Anika was born in 1972 from her mother's first marriage. The ROSE surname comes from her mother's second marriage in 1975. So need to do more sourcing to see which parent has roots in Cabo Verde.

Connected to this cluster another Portuguese notable:

Bento Gonçalves, he was secretary general of Comunist Party. During his first exile in Cabo Verde had a child with Justina "Djuta" Ramos Benholiel .
