Welcome to the Appalachia Project
Appalachia is a rich culture that is unique in itself with diverse genealogy, religions, legends, economics and identity.
This project celebrates Appalachia's diversity. We need WikiTreers like you to help us. If you have ancestors from Appalachia, you live in Appalachia or you simply love or have an interest in Appalachia's people and culture like we do, come join us!
Our mission is to explore all the Appalachian regions and people through genealogy. If you signed the Honor Code and have been a member for at least 30 days, click on the ANSWER button and let us know which Team(s) you wish to participate in (required for membership):

Donnie - Check you email. Sometime our email goes into spam.
Sign me up! I have deep roots in Appalachia (North Carolina and Tennessee). Add me to the South Central team, please!
BTW: "App-a-latch-a" IS the correct way to pronounce the region!
Pip -
I have been patiently waiting for you to join the Appalachia Project.
I have added you to the South Central team with Liz. Looking forward to collaborating with you. I have sent you an email with our Project information including your own "team sticker" code and Discord invite.
Sandy
Hi Tabor!
I love your enthusiasm to join us on Discord. Welcome to the Appalachia Project! I have added you to the South Central team.
I won't send you an email because I just gave everything to you in Discord. Presto, magic! Welcome!
Pamela -
Thanks for joining the Appalachia Project! I think the North Central team would be the best fit for you and your ancestors. I have added you to their team page.
Look for an email from me with more details on the Project and a Discord invite.
Taylor -
Thanks for joining the Appalachia Project! We could really use your help on the Southern team with the States you mentioned.
Look for an email from me with additional Project information and an invite to our Discord channel. Welcome!
I'd be interested in hearing more about how I could help! I'm most interested in the South Central team because that's where my roots are (though my parents went north and raised me in Marion County, WV - shoutout @Margaret Summitt).
Curt - I think the [South Central] team might be a perfect fit for you. Tomorrow, I will get you added to the team page & send you an email with more project information and Discord invite. In the meantime, check out the South Central team page and other regions. Thanks for joining the Appalachia Project! Sandy
Martha -
Thanks for your interest in the Appalachia Project! We would love to have you on the Project. I think the South Central team would be the perfect fit for you. Glance over the page and let me know what you think. I will send you an email tomorrow with some project information.
The Washington County page you mentioned, is actually managed by a different Project: The Virginia Project. We use their County pages for reference in the Appalachia Project instead of having duplicate pages/information. For full details on that Project and How to Join, click on the Virginia Project link.
So, the good news is that you can look forward to joining two Projects very soon! And after adding more profiles, you might want to check out the Southern Colonies Project.

Thanks for joining the Appalachia Project! I have added you to the Central Team that covers Southeast Kentucky.
I sent you an email with more details about the project and included an invite to our Discord channel. Welcome!
Great Mark! I have added you to the South Central team in addition to the Northern and North Central teams.
Check out our Sticker page to see the new ones added!
That sounds great! We can definitely use your help. I have just added you to the North Central team. When you get a chance, head on over to the webpage and enter your research areas/ancestors.
I will also send you an email with more project information and the invite to our Discord channel.
Thanks for joining the Appalachia Project!
not Sandy, but - yes for Botetourt, no for Rockingham.
See the project's [Counties of Appalachia] page (the [Virginia tables], which also address Augusta County, although the historical counties table might be moved to the project's Workspace for Virginia once that page is further along).
Rockingham County, created from Augusta County, in 1778, does not appear to have ever included land that is today considered to be in Appalachia, but it's close! (All of West Virginia is in Appalachia, and Rockingham is a border county). See https://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/countyformations/virginiaformationmaps.html (1778-).
