William Moore served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: Sep 2, 1864 Mustered out: Jun 20, 1865 Side: USA Regiment(s): 42nd Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry
William /Moore/[1][2][3] was born Born on 11 AUG 1791 in Dutchess, Columbia, New York[4].
Apparently William was dedicated to fighting for his country. He fought in the war of 1812. He served as a Private under Captain Pratt Adam in the Co N Y Mil. Much later, according to headstone, despite his advancing age, William volunteered again, this time to fight in the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private on 02 September 1864 in Company H, 42nd Infantry Regiment Wisconsin. He mustered out on 20 June 1865 in Milwaukee, WI.
According to family history, William became interested in an ancient claim to a large property in England. Following this spark of great interest he visited England to stake his claim on this property.
Unfortunately, the outcome of the claim was worse than simple failure. It--ruined the family's finances. The family was forced to move into one of his wife's father's homes but a home fire soon destroyed everything. All of their family possessions were lost. After selling what little property they had left, they moved to Wisconsin where their children had already relocated.
