Francis Pratt Winter was born on February 23, 1848 in Clarendon, Colony of Tasmania, son of George Winter (1814–1879) and Elizabeth Cox (1822–1899).
Sir Francis Pratt Winter, CMG was chief judicial officer of British New Guinea. He was knighted by letters patent in 1900.[1]
Francis (54) married Eliza Moore (34) (born in 1868 in Ballarat, Victoria; daughter of George Moore and Elizabeth Jane Cazaly) in 1903 in Victoria.
Francis died on March 29, 1919 in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia, aged 71.[2]
The death occurred on Saturday at his residence, High-street, Armadale, at the age of 71 years, of Sir Francis Pratt Winter, who was the first Chief Judicial Officer in British New Guinea (1888-1903), and was well remembered as a barrister and solicitor in Queensland and Fiji, having been Acting Attorney-General in Fiji.[3] |
He was buried at Boroondara General Cemetery, Kew, Victoria, Australia.[4]
