I'm curious about the roots of chronic illness in my family. I didn't know my grandparents well, and I'm very leery of giving a for-profit corporation outside of HIPAA jurisdiction my genetic code, so the best way I can think of is to find my ancestors and learn as much as I can about them; their causes of death, their health in life (which can be roughly gleaned from where they lived, what they did, and what the environment around them was like), and their lifespans (was it in line with regional averages? if not, why?). My hope is to better understand the epigenetics behind my family's chronic conditions, and maybe write a paper on it.
