Martha was born in 1873 in Northwest Arkansas. She grew up and married John Henry Callis there. In 1906 all of Martha's mother's family applied to the Cherokee registry, however, all applications were denied due to lack of proof. Before 1910 the Callis family moved to Sarcoxie, Missouri. She passed away in Sarcoxie in 1914 at the age of 40.
